Our Service Delivery work is done to make sure the interventions address the actual needs of the communities, which leads to greater sense of ownership and guarantees strong support for sustainability.
HDT defines Service Delivery as working in partnerships with stakeholders to provide locally and culturally acceptable support services to the community member and groups.
In this area, the strategic objectives are:
- Build up approaches to HIV and STI prevention work that effectively address gender and sexuality issues with particular focus towards men.
- Pioneering HIV and AIDS care and support with importance on cross referral system and to form support groups that have strong functional foundation and ownership.
- Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (MVC) through and by community based interventions with specific interest towards care families.
Project
In Service Delivery, HDT is implementing 2 projects:
1. Community education and mobilization

Objective: Educate on prevention, VCT and stigma reduction in the community through Theatre for Development and support groups. Also support nutritional needs and Income Generating Activities (IGA) to those infected and promotion of a referral system and Community Home Based Care. How: The methods being used for community education is Theatre for Development. Theatre for development is both educative and entertainment allowing communities to identify local risks and discuss possible ways to minimize them including local by laws. Where: This project is currently being implemented in ten wards of Rungwe district, Mbeya region. Funded by: GFATM (round 4) through AMREF as a lead recipient. |

2. Most Vulnerable Children Project

Objective: Improve livelihood of foster families which support Most Vulnerable Children, with a priority to old people. How: In Dar es Salaam and Kagera HDT identified families in collaboration with local authorities. Then the source of their livelihood is identified and HDT provides training on record keeping and gives grants so that their capital can be increased. In so doing the project has so far supported 51 families who are caring for 235 children. Where: This project operates in Dar es Salaam (Kinondoni municipal), Kagera (Ngara district) and Mbeya (Rungwe district). Funded by: In Dar es Salaam and Kagera this project is funded by HDT from its unrestricted funds acquired from capacity building program. In Mbeya it is funded by Abbott Fund trough Africa Bridge. |
